Listen to its soft sounds,
the rustle of the trees.
Nowhere else can this be found.
The wind carries its sweet soft breeze.

My lake is long with islands here and there.
My lake is deep with waters so blue.
This body of water attracts those who care.
Its beauty and its power must remain true.

At times it gets angry and waves splash on the beach.
Dark clouds roll in and rain falls hard on the ground.
This anger will disappear. The water calms and peace is in reach.
The moods of my lake are so varied be alert to every sound.

"The Sounds of my Lake - Ode to Lake George" by Gloria Abitante, December 2010

“I just wanted to thank you for taking us on the tour of the (great blue) heron rookery last week. What an awesome sight and site!”

    Virginia Rowan Smith, July 2005

“While we were hiking we were learning about many different species of animals and how to protect their habitat—it was definitely a wonderful experience!”

St. Mary’s School students Brooke Connor and Lea Gipson, May 2005

“John Wallace's children and grandchildren enjoyed many wonderful summers on Lake George - sailing, swimming, and exploring the Narrows. The LGLC's ongoing efforts to protect this basin will assure that future generations have the same opportunities to enjoy this beautiful lake.”

    Lucy Wallace, February 2005

“The Lavin and Adams families have a great love for Lake George, and a strong desire to see its shoreline and environs preserved. Judith Lavin and I decided that 2004 would be an appropriate year in which to give the Conservancy the tract adjoining Rogers Slide. This constitutes all the property the two families jointly own in Essex County and gives the State and the Conservancy the bulk of the mountain known as Rogers Rock. Our families hope this second donation will, like the first, encourage gifts to the Conservancy of other shoreline and adjacent property in the great north basin of Lake George.”

    Thomas Adams, February 2005

"The Darrin Family and the Hague Adirondack Charitable Foundation have always had a great love for Lake George and the surrounding region. We recognize and support the important mission of the Lake George Land Conservancy in preserving the beauty and quality of the lake and the surrounding region for future generations to enjoy. We are excited to be able to contribute this parcel to the Land Conservancy in order to assist them in fulfilling their important mission."

    Margaret A. Darrin, December 2004

“Enjoyable doesn’t really describe (the Fall Foliage hike at Cat and Thomas Mountains Preserve). It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life, corny as this may sound to you.”

    Peter Weill, October 2004

“(We) live on the east side of Lake George north of Gull Bay and are so excited about the recent purchase the Land Conservancy made there. We have enjoyed hiking there for years and now the area will be preserved forever. Thank you.”

Kenneth and Mary Gilkes, September 2004

“When I contemplate what our Lake would be without the preservation of the Morgan/White property, Flat Rock, Anthony’s Nose and Rogers Rock, not to mention Pilot Knob Ridge and the Bolton Landing and Northwest Bay initiatives, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for those hard working and forward looking individuals who made it happen.”

George C. Singer, past member of the LGLC Board of Directors, December 2003

“Lake George has a proud tradition of providing New Yorkers with unmatched recreational opportunities. We must continue to support initiatives that improve the health of the lake and its surrounding ecosystem so that future generations will have access to this magnificent natural resource. This acquisition will help protect Lake George, and ensure that local residents and visitors continue to enjoy one of the State’s most treasured regions.”

New York Governor George E. Pataki, July 2003

“This project represents a major step forward in protecting Lake George’s water quality and scenic beauty, and it will create significant new public recreation opportunities in and around Northwest Bay, which is one of Lake George’s most prominent features. We congratulate Governor Pataki and the Lake George Land Conservancy for completing this important land protection project.”

Andy Beers, Deputy Director of The Nature Conservancy of New York, July 2003

“Being a part of Lake George evokes a strong sense of common purpose and pride in all of us. Increasingly, as the impacts of degradation continue to threaten the integrity of the area and the cumulative impact of irresponsible use of the lake and its surrounding land become glaringly apparent, I remain convinced that the spirit of conservation will triumph.”

Lynn L. Schumann, past Executive Director of the LGLC, November 2001
