On September 28, 2019, the LGLC held its 3rd annual successful race with 52 runners and a beautiful day to be at the Amy’s Park Preserve. Of the 52 runners, 33 were new, 13 were back for their 2nd race and 9 were back for their 3rd race. This year, our racers ranged in age from 23- 72, a great representation of ages for this challenging race.
Our overall winner, Volker Burkowski, was also our defending 2018 champion, who shaved 1 minute off of his time and finished the race in 36 minutes and 8 seconds.
Amy’s Adventure Race is an event of the Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC), who’s mission it is to protect the land that protects the lake. The race was created by and is hosted and managed by the LGLC’s amazing NextGeneration Committee; this group of young professionals have committed their time and efforts to creating innovative events and increasing engagement with the LGLC and this year, they have dedicated the proceeds of their events to the Bolton Recreational Hub Initiative. (http://www.lglc.org/projects/bolton-recreational-hub/)
The Hub, which is a partnership between the LGLC and the Town of Bolton, is an initiative focused on making improvements to the trails and preserves in and around Bolton to bring awareness to the great importance and value of land conservation for water quality, habitat protection, recreation and economic growth. While the LGLC is not a hiking-based organization, we strongly believe that conservation and recreation work hand-in-hand in hand; getting people out on our lands is the best way to spread the message of why it’s so important to protect the land that protects the lake.
