LGLC to Hold Annual Meeting and Block Party

Bolton Landing, NY – The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) will hold its public Annual Meeting and Block Party at Up Yonda Farm Environmental Education Center in Bolton Landing on Saturday, August 17, from 11 am to 2 pm.

The event will begin with a its public Annual Meeting in the auditorium from 11 am to noon, with keynote speaker Meme Hanley, Project Manager for the Land Trust Alliance New York Program.

Ms. Hanley will offer her thoughts on the importance of land conservation today and in the future. She will discuss the integral connection between the protection of land and water, including examples from a national perspective, throughout New York State, and the work that the Lake George Land Conservancy has done to protect the land that protects the lake. Ms. Hanley will also discuss the importance of looking after protected land, and how this helps not only water quality, but can also help with issues such as mitigating carbon.

LGLC staff and directors will also take this time to discuss conservation achievements over the past fiscal year, including an investment of more than $520,000 in direct water quality protection, steps taken to further the Bolton Recreational Hub initiative, and efforts in the Huletts Landing focus area of the lake.

LGLC staff will also recognize two volunteers as its Volunteers of the Year – Todd Earl and Steven Schonwetter.

Following the Annual Meeting portion of the day, guests are invited to head out to the Up Yonda Farm lawn for the Block Party, including food, live bluegrass music, and hands-on activities for all ages.

Music is being performed by local group, the TnT Acoustic Duo. TnT is a duo with Tom Brady on acoustic rhythm guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and lead vocals, and Tony Cocca on Acoustic lead and rhythm guitar and vocals.

The following food trucks will be on the premises offering food and drinks for purchase: Adirondack Brewery’s Hops, Chops and Roll Truck, Burgers Around the World, Chilly Willy’s Ice Cream, and Darling Doughnuts Pop Up Shoppe.

Other activities available include free face painting, live raptors with Nancy Kimball, kids’ crafts and nature scavenger hunt, a guided hike to the overlook at 1 pm, plus all of Up Yonda Farm’s exhibits, butterfly house, children’s nature museum, pond exploration, and hiking trails for self-exploration.

The LGLC is proud to be the only land trust dedicated to the protection of the Lake George watershed, providing immediate, permanent protection of the lake’s water quality through land conservation. The organization and its partners have permanently protected 11,300 acres of land and over 6.5 miles of Lake George shoreline through purchased and donated land acquisition, conservation easements and innovative community collaborations. In addition, the LGLC creates and maintains nearly 40 miles of trails for year-round recreation and educational opportunities.

About Meme Hanley

In her role supporting over 90 land trusts in New York, Ms. Hanley has helped to strengthen the land trust community in part by overseeing the New York Conservation Partnership Grant Program that distributes over $2M each year to the State’s land trusts. She also provides organizational assistance, training, works with the State Legislature, and offers many other services to the State’s land trusts. She has been a part of conservation work from the beaches of Long Island Sound to small urban parks in New York City as well as projects here in the Lake George watershed, as the LGLC has received $350,000 in Conservation Partnership Grant funding since 2004.
