LGLC Announces 2018 Season of Living Lands Series

Bolton Landing, NY – The Lake George Land Conservancy (LGLC) kicks off its 2018 Living Lands Series on Wednesday, June 27, with “Adirondack Bear Behavior,” presented by DEC Big Game Biologist Jim Stickles. Stickles is one of six different presenters of the LGLC’s annual talk series, which continues each Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm until August 22 at the LGLC office in Bolton Landing (no presentation on July 4th).

Sponsored by Stewart’s Shops, the series includes family-friendly presentations, all of which are free and open to the public. Each topic aims to take an exclusive and up-close look at the wildlife and the people who utilize the lands and waters of Lake George and the Adirondacks, both past and present.

In addition, this year each attendee can enter into a drawing to win a Lake George themed basket, filled with goodies and information from each of our summer presenters. Attendees can enter their name each time they come to a presentation, so odds of winning increase with each attendance. The drawing will be held at the conclusion of the Living Lands Series.

After the holiday break, the series will pick up again on July 11 with “An Adirondack Portfolio,” a photographic tour of the Adirondacks from 1902-1935 narrated by Bob Bayle, a retired science teacher who is active in the Glens Falls-Queensbury Historical Society, Chapman Historical Museum and Warren County Historical Society. Bayle will speak about the photography of his father, Francis Bayle, whose breathtaking photographs chronicled the Adirondack forests, hiking trails, mountain vistas, primitive roadways, rustic structures and local people of the early 20th Century.

Other presentations include: “Ticks and Lyme Disease” with Dr. Holly Ahern of the Lyme Action Network; “The History of the Lake George Steamboat Company” with company VP Patricia Dow; “Keeping the Wild in Wildlife” with licensed wildlife rehabilitator Nancy Kimball; “Adirondack Moose” with DEC Game Biologist Jim Stickles; “Native Plants for Native Healing” with herbalist Nancy Scarzello; and “Bats” with DEC’s Katelyn Ritzko.

Registration is strongly recommended because of limited seating. For more information about each program and to reserve seating, go to www.lglc.org/events-and-programs/living-lands.
